Do you really need as much as you think?

Everyone either going into business or who wants to expand a current business needs money to do it. The amount will of course vary depending on what it is you are doing. However, getting it is a different kettle of fish. You need to think, "do I really need that much now or can I prioritise what I need?"

So - some tips below to save you money
- It would be great to have an office to go to every day but these can cost a lot and tie you into a lengthy lease if you are not careful - my tip - look at virtual offices. These are cheaper, usually easy-in easy-out terms, they look professional on your stationery, you can often get a reception service and reduction in meeting room costs to meet that client. Go on the internet and you'll find them.
- You've seen that great e-commerce website and you want one for your business. Have a simple 5-page website with a link to an ebay shop / account - this is so much cheaper when you are starting out. Obviously, when the money starts coming in you can afford to keep a cohesive site.
- Buy insurance in one package rather than one policy here and one policy there - it usually works out cheaper. You may need to look at a specific insurance company depending on your business if you offer something very specific.
- Business cards, leaflets, price lists.....the cost is mounting up isn't it? Lots of printing companies offer a business start-up package with pretty much everything you need . If that still works out more than you have, try www.vistaprint.co.uk as a starting point - they offer lots of free materials that you can design yourself and all you pay for is postage and packaging.
- Accounts - there is the option of getting an accountant or bookeeper to keep your books in check - before you start with one make sure that you know exactly what they will do and how they will do it so you know what you're paying for. If this works out too much, use excel on your computer. If you don't know how to use this come to one of Kickstart's bookeeping courses - they will show you how - 3hrs later, you're self-sufficient.

These are a few tips to help you save a bit here and a bit there which - trust me - when you're starting business will help enormously.
If you find that you still need a little bit of extra cash to help you there are several options for you:
1) Approach your bank for either a business or personal loan

2) If this is unsuccessful, contact the Business Enterprise Fund (BEF) on 01274 207217 or see www.befund.org

3) If you are currently on an any benefits including Jobseekers, talk to a benefits expert 01274 230041

4) Go on a "Manage Your Money" free workshop with Bradford Kickstart. Call 01274 777998 or www.bradfordkickstart.com/events for more information.

5) Talk to someone from Business Link (08456048048) and find out about what support they can offer

I hope that this gives you some idea of what you can do.

Good Luck with your business and saving money!
