In an age when people are more concerned about their health but have less time to do anything about it, Barbara Dinsdale, of Tong, has built a flourishing young business taking health screening services into the home, workplace, leisure or fitness centre – avoiding the need for people to visit health centres or hospitals.

A former fitness instructor, Barbara provides screening in two specific areas, food sensitivity and osteoporosis, through her limited company Health Yourself.

Using equipment she can set up almost anywhere, she can detect whether people are sensitive to particular foods or drinks, identify them and provide follow up advice. Delighted clients report improvement in their health within just a few weeks.

With different screening equipment she can detect whether people of any age are showing signs of contracting the painful bone condition osteoporosis. She advises clients at higher risk on lifestyle changes such as exercise and nutrition or those with advances readings to consult a doctor or GP.

Barbara formed her company last May after receiving guidance and support from a business counsellor with Bradford Kickstart. This is the Bradford Council programme which has already helped more than 300 new businesses to get started in the District.

“It takes time to build any business but I am getting to where I want to be,” she says. “My client base is steadily growing and I am encouraged by the progress I have made in just a few months.”

To help launch her business Barbara became a member of the GRID, a business centre opened in Manchester Road, West Bowling with financial backing from the Kickstart programme. A second GRID centre is now open at Bradford City’s Valley Parade stadium.

“The staff at the centre are very friendly and supportive. The GRID provides useful networking opportunities as well as office services which you can use as and when you need them,” she added.
